Puyol has been injured since January 22, when he was substituted at half time in the game against Real Santander (3-0), with damaged tendons in his left knee.

The captain trained with the first team squad on Friday, and was then declared fit to play. It is, however, unlikely that he’ll start the game at 9pm this evening.

Éric Abidal, post-operation, Bojan, knee injury and Javier Mascherano, suspension, are all unavailable for Barcelona.

The players travelling to Madrid are Valdés, Pinto, Fontàs, Puyol, Maxwell, Adriano, Piqué, Alves, Milito, Busquets, Keita, Xavi, Iniesta, Thiago, Dos Santos, Afellay, Pedro, Jeffren, Messi and Villa, according to the homepage of FC Barcelona.

To ease the wait, here’s a highlights video from the last El Clásico.
